Global Community Outreach

A well-known African proverb states that if you educate a woman you educate a nation. The same is true for doctors. If you educate a doctor you educate a community.

In a single year, a doctor can treat between 700-1500 patients. These same patients have the ability to influence the health choices of their family members and community members, spreading the knowledge or behaviors they often learn from their doctor. This is why PAN focuses its efforts on doctors and healthcare professionals, aiming to promote healthier dietary habits and reduce diet-related deaths. As trusted sources for information, intervention, and healing, healthcare professionals are key partners. PAN supports them by providing what’s often missing from the standard education: science-backed training, inspiring events, and community-driven knowledge sharing.

Nutritional education remains significantly underrepresented in medical universities worldwide, leaving even future doctors without essential, life-saving knowledge about nutrition.

We know first-hand how eager young doctors are to learn the latest science on nutrition and how much they care about planetary health—because we work with student groups in many countries. With the support of our generous donors, we’re working hard to expand our educational outreach to campuses globally. Our dedicated teams in PAN countries agree with Stanford Professor Christof Gardner’s statement: “Doctors don’t get any nutrition education.” We are committed to changing that across more than 3,900 medical universities in PAN countries and beyond.
