Founding Member & Former CEO of Greenpeace Germany

Dr. Monika Griefahn was a founding member and co-CEO of Greenpeace Germany, where she organized campaigns against chemical pollution of rivers and oceans and aimed to find solutions for renewable energy and to develop innovative products against climate change. She was the first female board member of Greenpeace International. Monika served as Minister of the Environment in the German state of Lower Saxony, where she worked for renewable energy and phasing out nuclear power, and was Member of Parliament in the German Bundestag. She founded and serves as CEO of the Institute media, environment, culture (IMUK), a company with advisory services and educational occupation in the sustainability sector. Her numerous volunteer commitments include the Right Livelihood Award Foundation (“Alternative Nobel Prize”) and she also initiated as founding member the Cradle to Cradle NGO.
